Way back in August, mom and I took a little day trip to Arizona to explore Midwestern University and get a feel for the area. Oh, we got a feel for it alright! It was a sweltering 110 degrees! The second we walked outside we were suffocated by the unbearable heat. Looking around, I saw dirt and gravel, sparse trees and tall, spiny saguaro cacti scattering the landscape... I felt like I was on Mars! Did people really like living out here?!?! And whose brilliant idea was it to plop a town smack-dab in the middle of this dry, lifeless desert?! We forced ourselves to carry on, in hopes that there was something... ANYTHING more appealing about this place!
When we approached the entrance to Midwestern University I knew things were going to start looking up when I saw a grassy lawn! Yes, a glimpse of hope! A brilliant green, lush grassy lawn! It was the first I'd seen on the entire drive from the airport. Entering through the gates at Midwestern we came upon two beautiful, tree-lined reflection pools with fountains... I had to take a second look to convince myself that it wasn't a mirage!
